The EUSO Stakeholders Forum is an annual event aiming to actively engage and exchange with the soil community, from policymakers and scientists to local actors, civil society representatives and citizens.

SoilValues participated in this year’s edition to share our approach to business models for soil health. Our coordinator, Erik Mathijs, presented how SoilValues is identifying and testing models that not only promote sustainable practices, but also capture multiple types of value:

1️⃣ Economic value – through cost savings and increased revenues biogas, bioeconomy)
2️⃣ Insurance value – by reducing financial and ecological risk, offering more stability and potentially lower interest rate
3️⃣ Indirect use value – by enhancing ecosystem services like nutrient cycling and carbon storage
4️⃣ Intrinsic value – supporting biodiversity and ecological integrity through regenerative practices
5️⃣ Social value – through enhanced welfare distribution and inclusion/benefit of disadvantaged actors

Erik also presented one of our six Testing Grounds, located in Germany, where both conventional and organic farms are working to establish a regional cooperative network. This circular approach aims to enhance revenues and promote the sustainable use of existing resources—for example, through manure separation for fertilization and energy production using their own biogas facilities.
