On April 16, SoilValues took part in the European Economic and Social Committee’s event on Regenerative Agriculture. The event brought together policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to explore ways to achieve a sustainable agriculture and food production while supporting climate and biodiversity.

Representing SoilValues, the project coordinator Prof. Erik Mathijs (KU Leuven) presented a session on “Opportunities for Carbon Farming and Regenerative Farming in Europe.” His intervention focused on the multiple benefits of regenerative agriculture, including increased soil organic matter, crop diversification, and input reduction—leading to improved soil structure, higher biodiversity, and ultimately, more stable yields and ecosystem services. Prof. Mathijs also introduced different complementary perspectives through which soil health and regenerative agriculture can be valued. This pluralistic approach underpins SoilValues’ work in co-developing socially legitimate and environmentally robust policies and business models for the future of farming!
